Last week the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion in the United States. It took effect in nearly half the country's 52 states, and more states are expected to limit access in the coming months.

The Judgement means the end of the US-wide Roe V Wade ruling that has guaranteed the nationwide right to abortion services since 1973 and gives individual states the power to determine abortion rights.

Advice and resources for those wishing to stand in solidarity

For members who want to stand in solidarity with the fight to defend abortion rights in the US, here are some actions from Abortion Rights you can support:

  • Share details and your ‘solidarity with the US pro choice movement’ message on your social media platforms – graphics can be downloaded from the MU
  • Make a solidarity donation via Abortion Rights fighting fund to support its solidarity actions
  • For members and friends in the US, Planned Parenthood, ACLU and other organisations have launched the Bans Off Our Bodies programme of action.The site provides resources for those looking for a safe abortion, how to get involved in the ‘Bans Off Our Bodies’ programme, protest tips and more.
