Zeb Rootz was formed back in 2010 by guitarist Steve Baker and the musicians of Zeb Rootz are well honed in their craft having played for many stars of reggae, ska and rock steady genre.

Steve toured with Neville Staple band (from the Specials) and still currently plays as resident guitarist in Desmond Dekker’s live band ‘The Aces’ feat Delroy Williams (Desmond’s manager/backing singer), Steve has also done studio recordings with Pluto Shervington (It Mek/DAT/Your honour) Ansell Collins & Dave Barker (Double Barrel/Monkey Spanner), The Pioneers (Long shot/let your yeah be yeah), Susan Cadogan (Hurt so good), Ken Boothe (Everything I own/Crying over you). Symarip’s Roy Ellis on the remake of the 70’s Skinhead Moonstomp album and many more…

Fitz (Drums) and Libes (Bass) have toured together as a tight rhythm section with The Godfather of Ska Laurel Aitken, The Pioneers and Pressure Tenants also backing many more artists over the years…

Jo Brewer (Tenor Sax/Keys) has played for so many bands on the ska/reggae circuit it’s hard to keep up with her very busy schedule, however Zebz is her home and Jo loves to put on an energetic show for all

Flip1 (Backing studio vocals on the remake of Susan Cadogan’s Hurt so good) is our resident keys player/vocalist who also has his own solo album Inna Dis I War and has been singing in many bands over the years. He joins Zebz in 2015 as a guest vocalist for a show at the legendary Boston Gliderdrome finally joining the family in 2017 as keys player and vocalist.

Lead singer Paul Harris hails from the world of Gospel music and gives a performance straight from the heart with total conviction, some say he’s the James Brown of Ska! When you hear him sing 54-46 was my number (Toots and The Maytals) you best hold on to something…the power of his vocals hits you like thunder!

Last but certainly not least there is the wonderful empress Natou Charles who’s vocal skills and performance are smoother than ice cream, there is nothing this girl can’t sing..from Phyllis’s Dillons ‘Still in love’, Dawn Penn’s chart topping ‘No No No’ to Janet Kay’s famous whistle register notes in ‘Silly Games’ Natou has it all going on!

Welcome to the family Zebz.. Over time there has been very little change in the line up, in November 2023 Zeb Rootz will be 14yrs together, we love what we do and have amassed a good following of loyal fans some travelling from all over the UK to see us. We have also been Turtle Bay restaurants house band since 2018 playing many of TB’s venues up and down the UK. If you are looking for a great night of Reggae & Ska you won’t go far wrong booking Zeb Rootz and it’s worth mentioning that we also break down to a 4 piece band ‘FYA reggae’ fronted by Flip1 on keys/vocals, Steve, Fitz and Zebz dep bassist Laura. The duo ‘Flip n Steve’ can entertain at much smaller venues with tight budgets combining pro backing tracks with live guitar, keys and Vocals.. very popular at small venues and garden parties.
