Do you love and value live music? Then join your MU Wales & SW England team and a cast of hundreds – maybe thousands – on Saturday 29 April in a mass show of support for the Save Womanby Street campaign.
Along with live music venues across the UK, venues in this historical cultural hub of Wales’s capital city are under threat from planning development and noise complaints.
We have made representations and been pro-active in writing to all MPs, AMs and Councillors asking for the Agent of Change principle to be enshrined in Welsh Planning Law. We’ve called on them to recognise Womanby Street as an area of cultural significance for live music, highlighting its importance and contribution to the night-time economy, and to ensure that opportunities and benefits to musicians of every genre are protected in the future.
The Welsh Government is currently reviewing its planning policy and responses received so far are encouraging.
But we need to keep the pressure up, as local authorities and venues across Wales could also benefit from further powers to protect our valuable live music if we get the changes we are asking for.
Please meet your MU team outside Clwb Ifor Bach at 4.45pm for the march to City Hall – we’ll be the ones waving the MU flags!
