MU Members’ Handbook
The MU annually the go-to guide to all the services of the Union: the MU Members’ Handbook. A previous winner in the Best Publication category at the TUC Comms Awards, the book contains comprehensive career advice for the working musician, full information on how the Union works, together with details of the Union’s insurance cover and a highly valued tax savings guide.
The Musician Extra
The MU’s Regions and Sections regularly produce The Musician Extra newsletters for distribution to the appropriate members. The six Regional editions of The Musician Extra are produced for members in advance of the Regional AGMs that are held each autumn.
Those from the MU Sections, and the Equalities Committee, are produced in keeping with the demands of the relevant democratic procedures.
Each Extra includes news of MU elections, plus on occasion MU event information, discount schemes and articles of particular interest to members of the Region or Section in question. Editions of The Musician Extra are distributed in either print or digital form, as appropriate. Each copy is available in large-print, text-only format for visually-impaired members, upon application to the appropriate Regional Office or MU Section or Equalities contact.
The MU increasingly keeps members up-to-date with news and events via our dedicated MU News facility by distributing customised emails. These range from releases specifically promoting an event and calling for registrations, to the nationally distributed MU News, which contains news of significant campaigns and results. In order that you can benefit fully from the MU’s developing range of member communications, please ensure that the Union has your up-to-date email address on file. You can do this by visiting your own membership file online or by contacting your Regional Office.
Free MU merchandise
The MU produces a wide variety of merchandise for its members, in order to promote membership of the Union and support our campaigns. These items include lanyards, beermats, badges, flyers, pens, pencils, T-shirts, stickers, bags and posters. Many of these items are free to members and available from your Regional Office.
The Union puts on numerous events for members during the year and details of these are sent to members by email. Such events may be organised by your Region or a national MU department. The Union also regularly has a presence at major trade shows. Look out for details of these in MU member communications.
