MU Coronavirus Hardship Fund

£1M fund for MU members with genuine and pressing hardship

On this page you can find information about:

In response to the widespread cancellation of work that has hit our profession as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we have taken the decision to set up a £1M hardship fund that members with genuine and pressing hardship can apply to.

The fund is open to any current member who has:

  • Is currently paying the full MU membership subscription rate, or joint MU / NEU membership subscription rate (either in full or by Direct Debit)
  • Is a UK resident
  • Is suffering genuine hardship from loss of work due to the Coronavirus pandemic
  • Has not already successfully received a payment from the MU Coronavirus Hardship Fund

It must be emphasised that this is a hardship fund and not a fee replacement fund. The fund will not stretch very far if members who have lost bookings but are not in dire need of financial help all apply.

Please, act responsibly and have consideration for your colleagues who are suffering extreme and immediate financial hardship.

Initially, we will be restricting the individual grants to a maximum of £200 while we monitor the level of applications. We recognise that in many cases this will not be nearly enough to cover your weekly bills. We have provided the details of other music industry agencies that are currently also offering financial assistance at the bottom of this page and would urge you to contact them too.

Applying to the MU Coronavirus Hardship Fund

Once your application is submitted it will be manually reviewed and processed. We will endeavour to process all claims within 3 working days of receipt and will email you immediately thereafter to confirm whether your application has been successful or not.

If your application has been successful, we will endeavour to make a BACS payment of £200 to your nominated bank account within a further 5 working days.

If your claim is unsuccessful you will be able to submit a new claim at any time thereafter for further consideration.

If you are found to have provided false information in order to obtain payment from the fund, we reserve the right to demand the return of the payment and invoke any applicable MU’s disciplinary procedures.

Once we have paid out the full £1M value of the fund to members, we will inevitably not be able to accept any further applications and will communicate to members when this point is reached. We will endeavour to obtain donations from external sources in order to extend the operation of the fund throughout the Coronavirus crisis, but no funds beyond the initial £1M value can be guaranteed.

Check our FAQs page about the fund to learn more.
