Music for Health & Wellbeing - a workshop aimed at musicians looking to diversify income streams

22 Feb 2018

11:00am - 4:00pm

This exciting workshop, led by Louise Braithwaite and supported by duo partner Diane Clark will take attendees through an interactive session, aimed at diversifying income streams for musicians. This is specifically aimed at members looking to use live music in educational environments, healthcare settings, and care homes.

This will be an interactive workshop where members are encouraged to bring their own acoustic instruments. You will have the chance to try out live material on a friendly & encouraging peer group.
Louise & Diane will draw upon their vast collective experience to deliver the following;

1) Good reasons to diversify - thinking about Performance and its effect on audiences in new ways. Growing your professional skills and your income streams.

2) Their current portfolio including how & why it has affected their practice. The kinds of places and people they currently visit & work with.

3) What (additional) performing and non-performing skills you need for Healthcare settings and this client (audience) group.

4) What are the challenges when working in these environments? eg. meeting different people's needs; people telling it like it is; emotional demands of palliative/respite settings; Safeguarding training & DBS; appropriate insurance; getting paid by the NHS. Accessing training and observation opportunities. Explaining to stakeholders why Live music is better than a CD.

5)  Starting to research work opportunities- budget holders, trusts, NHS, private care homes, local authorities, day centres, care home activity coordinators, NHS patient experience coordinators, charities (eg. Mindsong).

This event is free to attend for MU members only. Please note, attendees will need to provide their own lunch.
