Injury Prevention for Musicians

Learn how to look after yourself in the practice room as well as in performance, enabling you to improve the quality of your music whilst staying healthy.

Run in collaboration with BAPAM (British Association for Performing Arts Medicine), Chartered Physiotherapist María J López will be leading this Injury Prevention Workshop.

Aims of the workshop include:

  • Theory session where you will learn about your body, healthy practice habits, load management and the best way to minimise unnecessary muscle tension
  • Practical session where your instrumental posture will be analysed and corrected where necessary
  • Teaching and practice of warming up, stretching and relevant strengthening exercises.

María López, is a Physiotherapist and has completed a Bachelor in Music (Hons), flute performance. Combining both passions she specialises in musician’s related injuries.

In addition to her role as a Physiotherapist in Life Fit Wellness, she also runs a clinic in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she has the opportunity to guide musicians through their rehabilitation process and preventing injuries.

Everyone is asked to bring their instrument along with them on the day, if feasible. A piano will be provided.

BAPAM's healthy performance training sessions are designed to help you avoid the health problems often encountered in the course of an arts career. When problems do occur they provide specialist medical advice in their free clinics.
