#YWM15: Sign the TUC Housing Charter for Young People

Call on Government to address the housing crisis facing young people this Young Workers’ Month.

Call for urgent action by Government to address the housing crisis facing young people. Sign the Housing Charter for young people this Young Workers' Month, created by the TUC Young Workers' Forum.

Consecutive governments have failed to meet the housing needs of young people, many of whom have been pushed into the private rented sector because of the shortage of housing, social housing, and the unaffordable and still rising cost of home ownership. As a result people under 35 are now the largest group living in the private rented sector (over 50%).

Yet the private rented sector lacks effective regulation and young people face high rents and poor-quality accommodation, often in unsafe housing environments, and insecure tenancies.

The TUC Charter for Young People in the Private Rented Sector calls for Government to strengthen tenants' rights by making private renting more affordable, secure and decent.

Support the Charter:

  • Sign the charter and Tweet a photo of it with a message of support mentioning @TUCyoungworkers,
  • Post your photo of the signed Charter and a message of support on Facebook using #TUCYoungWorkers,
  • Print out your Charter and display as a poster for others to see at work, college, university or in school, and
  • Ask others to sign it too.
