Stand for election to your Section!

Get involved in your Section (network) and help us better represent you.

“A musicians’ work is varied and our members work in many different ways,” says our Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Horace Trubridge. That’s why we have Sections, to inform the work of the Union and shape MU policy.

Think of Sections as focus groups of musicians working in a specific sector like music teaching, theatre or live performance. Each one has a democratically elected committee and the sections allow MU members to share their experiences and expertise. Sections can be vital in deciding what issues we focus on, what rates of pay we recommend and how we work for you.

Right now, you have the opportunity to stand for election to five of our six Section Committees:

  • Live Performance
  • Theatre
  • Music Teachers
  • Recording and Broadcasting
  • Music Writers

It’s an opportunity to feed back to us what life is really like for you, and other musicians working in that area of the industry. The more diverse these committees are, the better we can reflect the breadth of work you do. It’s also a great way to get involved in the work of the Union, network with other musicians and learn more about how the industry works.

If you would like to stand, complete and return the reply paid postcard that came with the latest edition of The Musician. Or you can print out this form and send it to MU Sections 2016, MU HQ, 60-62 Clapham Road, SW9 0JJ

Haven’t yet joined the Sections relevant to your career? The MU’s Sections could also be described as networks - when you join a Section, you can sign up to receive Section specific news and developments. To join the Sections relevant to your work, get in touch with the Secretary of the section you would like to join.
