MU Statement on Fabric

The Musicians’ Union (MU) is deeply disappointed by Islington Council’s decision to revoke Fabric’s license. Once again we see another renowned music venue close due to issues over licensing.

The Musicians’ Union (MU) is deeply disappointed by Islington Council’s decision to revoke Fabric’s license. Once again we see another renowned music venue close due to issues over licensing.

Despite the hope that all parties would be working together to seek a solution and keep Fabric’s doors open, the Police and Islington Council have decided the venue should close.

Dave Webster, MU National Organiser for Live Performance, says:

“Whatever the problems venues are facing, systematically closing them down simply pushes the problem somewhere else. The problem remains but the venue closes. It’s not an effective solution.

“Venue owners are often hamstrung by their licensing conditions. Let’s hope the Night Time Commission and the newly appointed Night Czar can effect some significant changes in attitude towards this issue.”
