BOOK Music & Lyrics Groups Open for Applications

BOOK Music & Lyrics in now accepting applications for its 2017 Librettists Group and its First Year Composer/ Lyricist Group for emerging musical theatre professional development.

BOOK Music & Lyrics (BML) in now accepting applications for its 2017 Librettists Group and its First Year Composer/ Lyricist Group for emerging musical theatre professional development, to begin at the end of February.

Each group will meet for 30 sessions during the year.

The closing date for applications is 24 January.

In 2016, BML had over sixty writers, composers and lyricists in its four groups (three levels of composers/ lyricists groups & one librettists group). Between them, they had 20 professional productions and 15 showcases/ rehearsed readings / scratch night performances for live audiences of over 62,000.

Current shows by BML writers include ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’ (Lowry Centre 2016, New Victory Theatre on Broadway + West End Criterion Theatre, 2017), ‘Assisted Suicide - the Musical’ (Unlimited Festival at the Royal Festival Hall, Tramway Glasgow & DadaFest Liverpool, all 2016 + Melbourne Comedy Festival 2017), and ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ (Nuffield Theatre Southampton 2016, Lyric Hammersmith & 16 theatre tour, 2017).

Among shows coming up are 'Sorrows of Satan' at the Tristan Bates and 'Summer Nights in Space' at the Vault Festival, both in February, and 'The Little Beasts', which will get additional development from Perfect Pitch at the Other Palace in the summer.

Previous members have also won the Stiles & Drewe 'Best New Song' competition, the Stiles & Drewe Mentorship award, and the Iris Theatre XMas Factor competition several times.
