Musicians’ Union Launches Manifesto Video, Calling for Support from Music Lovers

The video, titled ‘I am music’, celebrates the power of music to lift spirits, communities and the economy – whilst encouraging music lovers to sign-up as supporters.

The video examines the typical experiences that many people will have with music throughout their lives:

“Your first shake of the rattle
Your recorder lesson
Your match day anthem
Your hands in the air
Your main stage mayhem
Your favourite movie scene
Your first dance
Your last night of the proms
Your family singalong
Your swan song.”

It ends by calling on those who care about the future of music to sign up as an MU Supporter.

Supporters are asked to unite behind three common goals in the protection of music – letting every child learn music, letting touring musicians travel and letting live music live.

Growing support

We hope that the video will reach out to a wider audience of music lovers who have been touched by music in their day-to-day experiences, with the aim of encouraging them to protect the future of music by signing-up as MU supporters.

A broader network of supporters will help the MU better influence the government and other decision makers. With the help of a wider community of music lovers, we can campaign more effectively to protect music and access to it.

That’s why we need the support of the general music loving population, as well as MU members and musicians.

The scheme is free to sign-up to, and supporters receive regular campaign updates, ways to get involved, and music industry news.

It was launched in the summer this year and ran alongside our Musician Behind the Moment campaign, successfully pulling in a larger network of support for the MU’s campaigns.

Get involved

We need your help to reach out and continue growing our community of music supporters. Share the video with friends, family and colleagues who care about music – and let them know that they can sign up as supporters for free.

You can also help by spreading the word over Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
