Musicians’ Union National Organiser Orchestras to Retire

After 29 years Musicians’ Union (MU) National Organiser Orchestras Bill Kerr will be retiring from the MU on 8 February 2019.

After 29 years Musicians’ Union (MU) National Organiser Orchestras Bill Kerr will be retiring from the MU on 8 February 2019.

Originally a first Violinist in The Hallé, Bill started his trade union work by taking on the role of MU Steward at the orchestra.

He then chose to hang up his Violin and take on trade union work full time by joining the MU as their North West District Organiser. Fourteen years later he progressed into the new role of National Organiser Orchestras.

Bill's dedication, understanding and knowledge in this role has been very much appreciated and will definitely be missed.

Over the next few months Bill will be handing over to his successor Jo Laverty. Jo is the MU's London Regional Organiser and currently works with the London based orchestras. She is delighted to be given this opportunity and is very much looking forward to expanding her work nationwide.
