British and European artists are invited to submit proposals to perform at SQUARE, a brand new showcase taking place in Portugal in 2025.

The new event aims to contribute to a more diverse music industry ecosystem

SQUARE, a brand new celebration of independent artists and grassroots music communities across the continents bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, is scheduled to take place from January 29 to February 1 2025.

The four-day event will unfold across four locations in Portugal: Braga, Barcelos, Famalicão, and Guimarães.

Positioned to contribute to a more diverse and representative music industry ecosystem, SQUARE will serve as a unifying platform, bringing together local scenes with artists and industry professionals spanning the continent of Europe and beyond.

Showcasing emerging talent from smaller creative communities

The programme will be developed in collaboration with various cultural entities, including labels, promoters, and festivals operating within the spectrum of emerging music across the three continents.

Recognising the intrinsic connections between Braga and its neighbouring cities - Barcelos, Guimarães, and Famalicão - Square aims to showcase the finest emerging talent through collaborations with local, national, and international partners.

Confirmed partners include gig.ROCKS!, FMM Sines, Nyege Nyege, Sinsal, COSMOS  and Coquetel Molotov.

The event seeks to establish itself as a reference point for both professionals and music enthusiasts, fostering a movement of national and international audiences exploring historic and natural sites through music.

British and European musicians can apply now to submit proposals for showcase performances

Focusing on the connection between the continents bathed by the Atlantic, the festival is seeking artists who work and reside on the three continents bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.

Proposals in any musical genre, with any lineup configuration, and featuring music produced in any language will be considered.

Entries opened on April 16 2024, and submissions close on July 31 2024 at 11:59pm (GMT+1). Applications will be reviewed by the event’s programming team and results will be announced in September 2024.

Selected projects will receive a performance fee of €750 (upon presentation of a receipt or invoice), catering, accommodation (for artists residing more than 60 km from the festival), technical rider, and backline.
